September 24th 2024, will be the next Coffee with Some Commissioners
Location: Dodsons on Broadway, New Lexington 7:30 am
Perry County Auditor Derek Householder will speak at this months breakfast.
I think there may be quite a few people that do not realize the role and responsibilities of a county auditor.
Generally speaking a county auditor is responsible for things such as:
- Financial reporting: Oversees the county's financial records and ensures that all expenditures are in line with the budget
- Payroll: Handles payroll for county employees, including withholding and deductions
- Audit claims: Reviews all claims against the county to ensure they are legitimate and accurate, and recommends whether to pay or reject them
- Property tax administration: Manages the property tax system, including calculating mill levies, preparing bills, and collecting taxes
- Special audits: Assesses risk across the county to identify the most effective audit areas
- Sealing measuring devices like gas pumps and scales
- Appraising and assessing property
- Licensing dogs and vendors
- Calculating taxes and administering assessments
- Administering tax exemptions
Derek, will provide updates regarding the Perry County Auditor's office, explain some of the forms available to help landowners, and touch a bit on the different types of levies (ex: Additional, Replacement, and Renewal).

Coffee with Some Commissioners is open to everyone, featuring agencies and organizations around the County each month for an exchange of “positive” information.
