Zero Fare, Zero Emissions, Zero Loop!

I wanted to share the great news about our Perry County Transit (PCT) launching the Zero Loop Transit system this Friday, June 17th 2022. The Zero Loop ride is completely free and currently consists of nine stops throughout New Lexington and Somerset. The Zero Loop runs from 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday.

The Perry County Job and Family Services agency (PCJFS) has run PCT on behalf of the county commissioners since 2014. From the beginning, our vision has been for PCT to greatly improve access to family, friends, and jobs, and access to critical services such as shopping, health care or the senior center by building for Perry County a model transit system unique to rural Ohio.

We’re calling it the Zero Loop Connector because it is a zero fare, no-charge service which will shortly feature zero emissions vehicles that are soon to arrive.

Service like this requires bus shelter stops and an Ohio Department of Transportation grant has allowed us to build nine of them as part of the Zero Loop’s infrastructure.

With the opening of the Zero Loop, the service is able to pick you up and take you to places such as Genesis ER in Somerset or even the Kroger in New Lexington.

In the future, the Zero Loop will be expanded to run  from Corning to Thornport, and from Roseville to New Straitsville. Imagine the impact of people being able to get to jobs, doctors, groceries and more throughout the entire county thanks to a well-run transit system. It would be like you’re living in a suburb of Columbus!

PCJFS has a mission to increase economic opportunity for our residents and to reduce their vulnerability to social and physical challenges and disruptions. Increasing community connectivity as literally as running the rebuilt Perry County Transit system goes a long way in accomplishing this mission. I hope you see as I do that Perry County Transit is a valuable community asset we rural Ohioans have long deserved.
