NEW LEXINGTON – On Saturday, August 26, 2023, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) held an awards celebration to recognize its volunteers.

NEW LEXINGTON – On Saturday, Aug. 26, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program held an awards celebration to recognize its volunteers.

RSVP Director Ruth Liff-Gray organized the event, and the luncheon was catered by retired Corner News owner Ernie Altier with the assistance of Mary Mertz. Perry County Commissioner Derek Householder assisted in the awards presentation.

New Lexington High School volunteers served and assisted along with Linda Dishon.

During the previous grant year from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023, RSVP recorded 10,453 volunteer hours.

Three volunteers received gift cards from the Perry County Commissioners:

  • Julia Cooperrider has served 28 years and one month. She is the supervisor of the Thornville Food Pantry.
  • Sarah Hoover has served 21 years and one month. She has volunteered in various locations throughout our county.
  • Paul Miller served the most hours at 5,880, and has been a volunteer for five years and seven months. He volunteers at the New Lexington Food Pantry.

 

RSVP volunteers work throughout our county providing a variety of services that include:

  • staffing five food pantries
  • friendly visits
  • reassurance phone calls
  • respite
  • outreach — community events
  • Perry County Health Department
  • Washington County Health Department
  • EMA
  • Senior Center Nutrition
  • OSU Extension
  • Mount Aloysius
  • Aqua Classes
  • Walk With Ease Classes
