DD Board supervisor wins award for customer service

NEW LEXINGTON — On Nov. 30, Perry County Board of Developmental Disabilities (PCBDD) Service and Support Administration (SSA) Supervisor Carrie Torka was recognized by the Ohio Association of County Boards of Developmental Disabilities (OACBDD) as the 2023 recipient of the Five-Star Customer Experience Award. Carrie accepted her award during the annual winter conference located in Columbus.

The Five-Star Customer Experience Award was created in 2019 by OACBDD and is designed to recognize a county board of DD employee who, over the previous year, has routinely demonstrated their willingness and ability to go above and beyond in supporting people served by their county board. Candidates across all 88 counties in Ohio are eligible for nomination. Award recipients show extraordinary commitment to the people they serve by:

  • Showing compassion and empathy when working with people served by their county board, being mindful of how their attitudes and actions could be perceived;
  • Placing the needs and expectations of the people they serve as their number one priority;
  • Exhibiting creativity or resourcefulness in assisting people served by the board, often above and beyond what is typically expected of employees in their positions;
  • Taking pride in ownership of the day-today processes for which they are responsible and showing exceptional initiative where necessary to help a person served achieve their goals;
  • Fostering teamwork through open communication with and encouragement of colleagues, giving the organization as a whole more chances to deliver excellent experiences for people and families served.

Carrie’s nomination was submitted by the PCBDD SSA department who stated, “The SSA Department would like to nominate Carrie Torka for the Five-Star Customer Experience Award. Carrie shows extraordinary commitment to the people PCBDD serves. Carrie functioned as an SSA prior to accepting the SSA Supervisor position in 2020. Carrie continues to foster relationships that she built with people and families when she functioned as their SSA. We feel that she exemplifies the definition of the award by showing compassion to others, exhibiting creativity to problem solve, taking pride in processes and fostering teamwork. All these qualities positively influence outcomes for those we serve and increase the overall customer experience.”
