Queen of the Lake III Sternwheeler Ready for Tours
Buckeye Lake, Ohio The Buckeye Lake Historical Society and Museum is proud to announce that the Queen of the Lake III restoration project is finished, and the 88 ft sternwheeler will be cruising the shores of Buckeye Lake for the 2020 season. It will begin it’ season May 1 and run through October 30.
The 5 -year project has had hundreds of hours of restoration and over 50 volunteers have turned the river boat into a 55+ passenger tour boat.
The boat donated by Dr Ronald and Cindy Downing of Malta in June of 2015 was hauled up from the Muskingham River then drydocked at Buckeye Lake Yacht Club for 4 years while began its restoration. It was moved this past summer to Buckeye Lake Marina for its completion.
Director J-me Braig of the Buckeye Lake Museum states that” This project has been a long time coming. The Volunteers, donors, members and friends of the Museums’ kept it alive and it has been a job well done. “ Ms. Braig believes that the Queen of the Lake III has something to offer everyone. There will be public and private tours along with special events such as , Girl’s Night out, Sunset Cruises, Dinner Cruises, Music on the Lake, Picnic Sunday just to name a few.
History does repeat itself as this will be the third sternwheeler to cruise the waters of Buckeye Lake beginning in 195w with the JB Taylor later renamed the Queen of the Lake . The last sternwheeler was the Mark Twain that left the lake in 1973 as the Buckeye Lake Amusement Park era came to an end. The museum is bringing that back as historic tours will once again resume.
Judge Luann Cooperrider, Board president is so excited to bring this unique tourism game changer to the Buckeye Lake area. “As board president I know the Queen of the Lake will provide a permanent funding source and keep our museum on solid financial basis. I am so proud of the effort of the director, the board, the amazing crew of workers and volunteers and the ever-faithful people who have believed in our mission and donated to our Queen of the Lake III.”
