JobsOhio Update and Economic Impact Memo from JP Nauseef | May 21, 2020

To JobsOhio’s statewide business and community stakeholders,

The pandemic has presented Ohio with numerous challenges, but Ohio has also gained global attention thanks to the DeWine/Husted Administration’s response.

That recognition has created a generational, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Ohio. As the nation turns its focus to reshoring, Ohio is already prepared to lead with its diverse industry base, a quality workforce and proximity to 60% of the North American market. The economic duress could also accelerate a trend of looking away from the coasts and toward the Midwest.

As this happens, and other states maneuver through economic development budget cuts, JobsOhio, with its unique business model, will already be prepared to help Ohio capitalize on this opportunity. Post COVID-19, JobsOhio envisions Ohio as a national leader in supply chain development, strengthening what we have and helping companies fill in gaps. We aim to help Ohio become the most innovative state in the Midwest, which includes an inclusive strategy centered around faster, more accessible statewide broadband. Ohio’s healthcare industry will be among the most efficient and innovative in the world and Ohio will be a top state for military missions, families and veterans.

We will put Ohio businesses first to make sure they’re in a position to innovate, grow and thrive. This includes focusing on retaining in-demand talent and upskilling displaced talent. Our approach to deal-making will include greater diversity and more risks. To do so, we will leverage our partnerships – economic development, government, public-private and others – to the greatest extent possible. Together, we must be bold, be aggressive and be smart for the good of Ohio. Now is Ohio’s time.

JobsOhio’s most recent Economic Impact Report is now available on our Ohio Safe. Ohio Working page, along with information on JobsOhio programs and reopening resources for the business community.
